SASAKI SATORU, a promising new domestic brand that debuted in Autumn/Winter 2024, will Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 6th floor, Men's Creators section, from February 5th (Wed) to February 11th (Tue/Holiday).

SPRING/SUMMER 2025 COLLECTION

Designer Satoru Sasaki's SPRING/SUMMER 2025 COLLECTION, themed "BEYOND ILLUSION," focuses on the artist Frank Stella. The painting industry changed dramatically before and after Frank Stella; he was an artist who overturned many concepts of painting and continued to create new things. His works and words have been annotated and reflected in the collection.

Many people associate Frank Stella with stripes. These stripes are expressed through pintuck cord embroidery and pinstripes. The pintuck cord embroidery incorporates a "relief construction" design that complements the stripes. A special process of embedding lily yarn on the back creates stripes that appear flat but are actually three-dimensional.

Among the many innovative ideas created by Frank Stella, one phrase that particularly resonated with me was "break away from illusion." Inspired by this, I aimed to create something universal and based on a new concept, rather than something flashy.
I used organza, which is unusual for menswear, and considered using it in items that are the opposite of what you'd expect from organza. I made a hoodie or varsity jacket, which are typically made of thick material, using organza for its transparency and lightness. I added quilting to the organza to give it a three-dimensional effect, resulting in a see-through varsity jacket. The sleeve ribbing was also custom knitted by a knitter using yarn specifically for see-through fabrics. Also, yellow is my personal favorite color, so I specially ordered it in an original yellow color.

All of our pants feature leather patches, reflecting our desire for them to be treated as everyday wear, much like Levi's®. The new Painter Pants were designed from nylon material with the idea of creating pants to wear while painting. To reflect Frank Stella's use of multiple colors, we created an original green to express a pop of color. The catch washer finish adds an imperfection.

When designing these denim jeans, I focused on the principle of "combining contrasting elements." The front features a slacks-style denim design, while the back combines a denim design with wool. I had a craftsman hand-spray the denim, aiming for an imperfect finish with unevenness and a slight overspray on the wool on the back.

The lace shirt is inspired by Frank Stella's works "Red-bellied Butterfly 5.5 X" and "Katsura 1979." These pieces were inspired by books Stella acquired during his stay in India. The lace is embroidered with a curved ruler pattern. Because these works are three-dimensional, we considered how to make the curved ruler design appear three-dimensional on clothing, and commissioned a craftsman with 60 years of experience in hand embroidery to embroider this intricate pattern using lily yarn.

The theme "BEYOND ILLUSION" is a quote from Frank Stella, and it embodies everything Satoru Sasaki wants to convey this season.
