SUMAN DHAKHWA , a brand that primarily uses the traditional Japanese technique of "Mokume-gane" (wood grain metalwork), will be holding a promotion at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1st floor, Jewelry section from September 18th (Wed) to October 1st (Tue). Their jewelry, entirely handmade using various metals such as silver, copper, and gold, develops a warmth that deepens with wear. This time, they will be showcasing a wider variety of the brand's appeal, including a specially sandblasted "Mokume-gane" bangle.
MOKUMEGANE (wood grain metal)
Mokume-gane, a traditional Japanese metalworking technique that uses the differences in metal colors to create wood-grain-like patterns, is a material created by layering plates of different materials, welding them together with heat and pressure, and then repeatedly shaping and carving them, requiring considerable time, effort, and skill.
Even then, it's still just a single material, and it's only after that it's finished into jewelry. With prolonged use, it develops a texture and unevenness like real wood, allowing you to enjoy the unique aging process of mokume-gane.
