[Interview] What do people with good taste choose? We asked three Isetanista members about their personal fragrance choices.



What kind of values and perspectives do stylish people usually use when choosing clothes and accessories? What fragrances do those people we're curious about choose? This project started with these kinds of questions.
In this special feature, coinciding with the "Summer Perfume Fair curated by ISETAN MEN'S" which will be held on the 1st floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building from Wednesday, June 26th, we focused on three "Isetanistas" who are sensitive to fashion and trends and conducted interviews with them.

Three individuals who are interested in a variety of things while cherishing their own values will introduce their favorite fragrances.

No. 1 Atsuki

A Tokyo resident in her 30s, she runs several companies after leaving a consulting firm. Her fashion interests are mainly clothes and bags. Her hobbies include domestic and international travel, exploring cafes and restaurants, and saunas. Although she leads a busy life, she takes care of her health by going to the gym and maintaining her physical condition so that she can spend her days off actively. Recently, she has been trying her hand at cooking little by little, asking for advice and recommendations from Isetanista who love cooking.

Q. What are some things you are particular about when it comes to the clothes you wear on a daily basis?

Basically, my style is a clean, casual look. Right now, I tend to wear more items with a bit of color and relaxed silhouettes in preparation for summer. I prioritize creating a cohesive look overall, including accessories like bags and shoes.

When I buy clothes, even if I intuitively like something, I always try it on first. I take my personal color and body type into consideration when choosing clothes that suit me.

Q. Atsuki, could you tell us about your favorite fragrance ?

I prioritize coordinating my outfit with clothes and bags, and then add fragrance as an accent. Because my job involves meeting many different people and attending many business dinners, I try to choose scents that aren't too strong and that are generally well-liked.

It's not a typical rose scent, but a more complex and fresh floral fragrance. I also like how it develops into a calm, musky scent over time. Because it's refreshing and subtle, it's easy for men to wear and suitable for business settings. I also love the name, "Young Rose."
Center: D'ORSAY MA
This is a fragrance I use for important business meetings and special occasions in my private life. Dorsey products have names and stories behind them, and MA means "the best version of myself." I love how it gently scents my skin, with a sophisticated aldehyde-based top note, followed by a comforting floral scent, and then harmonizing with warm woody and musk notes.

Behind the refreshing and fresh citrus scent lies a hint of tea. It's not a sweet tea, but more like lemon tea, with a smoky accent reminiscent of the bitterness of citrus peel, which I really like. It's almost completely devoid of sweetness, offering a crisp and refreshing scent that can be used by both men and women, making it perfect for the upcoming summer season.

Q. What kind of mood do you want to be in when enjoying fragrances this summer? Are there any fragrances you'd like to try?

Up until now, I've mostly worn perfumes with scents that appeal to a wide range of people, so this summer I'd like to try something a little more distinctive. I just bought the Bvlgari Allegra Discovery Set. I'm looking forward to enjoying this summer with the Allegra fragrance, which evokes the scenery of Italy, and perhaps even layering it with other scents.

A working mom at a foreign financial company with a one-year-old son. She loves collecting beautifully crafted objects and eating, and since giving birth, she's been hooked on finding restaurants and mail-order food that she can enjoy with her child. Her current favorite mail-order item is white warabi mochi made from coconut.

Q. What are some things you are particular about when it comes to the clothes you wear on a daily basis?

I often choose basic yet slightly edgy items that embody my way of life and lifestyle. Also, as I've gotten older, I've come to prefer high-quality items that are physically comfortable to wear and that I can cherish for a long time.

Q. Please tell us about your favorite fragrance , Shiu .

Fragrance is positioned as the final piece that completes a style. While the fashion items worn tend to be somewhat similar, I believe that fragrance has an element of "changing the flavor" of a style, so I try to have a fairly wide range of choices so that I can adapt to various occasions.

This fragrance is packed with the scents of the Sicilian sea and citrus fruits. I love how it has a refreshing quality that lifts my spirits on humid, muggy days.

Center: LE LABOPATCHOULI 24
This ultimately smoky and addictive fragrance is something I particularly like to wear lightly on workdays when I'm wearing a basic suit or matching set. It instantly gives a more formal style an edgy and fashionable edge.

Right: TAMBURINSCHAMO
I haven't worn sweet-smelling fragrances much before, but this CHAMO fragrance has a bittersweet scent that feels sophisticated and modern. I often wear it on relaxing days off.


Q. What kind of mood do you want to be in when enjoying fragrances this summer? Are there any fragrances you'd like to try?

I'd like to try a summery, light, floral fragrance. Since I'm raising children (especially in the summer), I tend to dress more casually, and I'm looking for a fragrance that, while somewhat contrasting with my casual style, will give me a fresh, polished, and stylish mom look even in summer.

In addition to fashion, I also enjoy being active in sports (especially soccer), traveling, and music.

Q. What are some things you are particular about when it comes to the clothes you wear on a daily basis?

I choose what to wear depending on the occasion, from work to leisure. For work, I might wear a suit, but in my private life, I wear a wide range of styles, from high fashion to sporty and streetwear.

Q. Please tell us about your favorite fragrance, Sho-san .

The basic principle is to continue using what you've found to be the right choice, but you should also switch between different products depending on the situation.
I like mild and gentle scents, but just like with clothes, I also decide whether to buy something based on whether I like the brand and packaging.

I absolutely loved the elegant and gentle scent, reminiscent of musk and linen. I also appreciated the unisex feel of the WOMAN version of 001, rather than the MAN version, and I particularly liked the trendy feel of the LOEWE brand itself, as well as the bottle design.

Right: JO MALONE LONDON 154 Cologne (See details )
The woody, slightly astringent scent is the complete opposite of the first LOEWE fragrance, which I thought would be good for different occasions. Also, the perfume's name comes from the address of Jo Malone's first boutique, and I chose this one because I thought it would be a nice souvenir to bring back from a trip to London.


Q. What kind of mood do you want to be in when enjoying fragrances this summer? Are there any fragrances you'd like to try?


For the hot summer months, lighter clothing is preferable, so I think LOEWE will continue to be my go-to brand.
The fragrance I'd like to try is Maison Margiela's "Replica" Lazy Sunday Morning. It's similar in scent to LOEWE , but I like the brand and packaging, so it's more of a "buy it on the cover" kind of thing. (laughs)
