CITIZEN, a Japanese watch brand that has been developing light-powered quartz movements for over 40 years as a pioneer in this field, has achieved remarkable results in a field different from Swiss watchmaking, such as developing a light-powered quartz movement with an annual error of ±1 second.
The "Eco-Drive One," which the company unveiled in 2016, showcasing the pinnacle of its pioneering solar-powered watch technology, now has a new model for 2022 featuring a small seconds subdial. The lineup is currently being showcased at the Watches/Citizen section on the 5th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku.

The most striking feature of the "Eco-Drive One" is its thinness. As the name suggests, the movement boasts a thickness of just 1mm, yet it houses over 80 parts. You'll truly appreciate its incredible design once you hold the watch in your hands.

The Eco-Drive One pursues "thinness" not only in the movement but also in the case design. The thinnest model achieves a thickness of just 2.98mm including the case. Furthermore, to achieve "strength," it actively employs highly durable materials that are resistant to bending.

One example of this ingenuity is the sapphire glass used for the dial. Known as a strong material, it is used for the crystals of most modern watches, but Citizen processed it to a thickness of 0.15 mm and directly embedded it into the dial, creating a strong yet sophisticated look.

In 2021, the series also released its first stainless steel model with 5 ATM water resistance, giving it a more active feel. The case, with its combination of hairline and mirror finishes, creates a three-dimensional effect, and the integrated bracelet adds to its sporty appearance.

In 2022, the Comfort Line, featuring a small seconds subdial, was introduced to the lineup. With its slightly smaller case size, small seconds subdial at the 6 o'clock position, and dial made from Tosa washi paper (a traditional Japanese craft), this classic and elegant model has a different feel from previous models.
