JUNYA WATANABE MAN Fall/Winter 2022 collection will finally launch on August 5th (Friday) at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 6th floor, Men's Contemporary section. The collection proudly announces its collaboration with Jamiroquai in a digital show that completely recreates the world of the famous song "Virtual Insanity."

The latest collection, from the 90s, features Jamiroquai and indigenous cultures as key elements.

As a pioneer in realizing dream collaborations between big names, JUNYA WATANABE MAN has collaborated with various brands to date. For the Fall/Winter 2022 collection, he featured Jamiroquai's Jay Kay. Many fans were undoubtedly thrilled by the digital fashion show, which recreated the music video for his 1996 hit song "Virtual Insanity."

Jamiroquai has no fixed members other than Jay Kay. The name is a combination of "Jam session" (improvisation) and "Iroquois" (the Native American Iroquois tribe), and it seems certain that Jay Kay's unique style was established through his resonance with the indigenous culture of the Iroquois people.

In this collection, various ethnic patterns, exemplified by the traditional Mexican textile "serape," are reinterpreted and expressed using JUNYA WATANABE MAN 's signature techniques such as patchwork, paneling, and prints. With the cooperation of the long-established textile manufacturer Pendleton, and collaborations with popular brands including Levi's, the collection successfully elevates traditional ethnic patterns into modern creations.

This denim piece showcases JUNYA WATANABE MAN 's signature patchwork technique, combining colorful patterned fabrics—symbolizing this season's designs—with vintage-processed denim. Incidentally, when creating the patchwork using vintage-processed denim fabric, they employ an extremely elaborate process: after processing the product, the parts are disassembled and then reconstructed.

WJ-K201-A

Sail Marshal, a German brand founded in 1896, is also a popular and established collaborator. All of their products, mainly bags, are fully handmade in their own factory in Germany. They have gained support for their sturdy, no-nonsense design and simple aesthetic, which is very typical of German products. This season, a special edition model using "serape" patterned fabric has been released. It is a masterpiece that fuses diverse cultures and sensibilities.

The Levi's W-name collaboration, which was born in 1999 and sparked a boom in three-dimensional cut denim, has been revived with a new approach by JUNYA WATANABE MAN . Adding a modern and JUNYA WATANABE MAN -esque interpretation to its outstanding concept, it deliberately uses nylon twill and cotton chino instead of the original indigo denim.

This swing top, featuring a glen check pattern that symbolizes British tradition, boasts a modern, oversized silhouette despite its classic design. The chest is adorned with an embroidered "Buffalo Man," Jamiroquai's iconic symbol, giving it a sporty yet casually chic look.

When you think of Jamiroquai, you think of track jackets. This jacket is a masterful fusion of different materials—nylon, denim, and flannel—with varying colors, patterns, and textures, all seamlessly combined in a panel design. It's basic yet avant-garde, and its relaxed fit is contemporary, making it special yet easy to wear.

Highly designed shirts, which have become a hidden favorite every season, are also recommended. The refreshing light blue check shirt (left in the photo) features leather accents on the collar and back yoke for an effective look. The check blouse (right in the photo) is a JUNYA WATANABE MAN signature piece, based on a round-collar dress shirt but mixing workwear and military elements with elbow patches and camouflage paneling.
