From Wednesday, May 19th, Mitsukoshi Isetan Online Store will be featuring SEVEN BY SEVEN , a brand created by Junya Kawakami, who has been involved in vintage buying since the 1990s while traveling back and forth between San Francisco and Japan. The brand will offer a wide range of items from the Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

Designer Kawakami spent most of his twenties in San Francisco. San Francisco has an area of 49 square miles, which fits within a 7-mile by 7-mile grid, and is therefore affectionately known as "SEVEN BY SEVEN (7x7)" by the locals.

Named after the local area SEVEN BY SEVEN launched in the Autumn/Winter 2015 season. Based on his experiences at the time, Mr. Kawakami approaches materials and objects from various angles, developing collections each season that are born from a free and uninhibited atmosphere.

From Wednesday, May 19th to Tuesday, June 1st, the 2021 Spring/Summer collection will be available on the Mitsukoshi Isetan online store. This collection includes a series using fabrics with a traditional feel, produced on old looms remaining in Bishu (Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture), a region renowned for its wool textiles in Japan, as well as a series featuring specially processed light-ounce denim fabrics. Furthermore, a special piece from the reconstructed collection, which reinterprets vintage clothing as fabric and gives it new value, will be available exclusively at the Mitsukoshi Isetan online store.
Items made from vintage silk fabrics found in San Francisco are likely to attract attention, as they combine the unique texture that only old materials can provide with a modern silhouette.
