The world's first (*1) VAIO Z with a three-dimensional molded full carbon body has arrived!

The 2021 model of the "VAIO Z" that we are introducing today is the world's first mobile PC to feature a three-dimensional molded full carbon body. By using carbon fiber material, which combines lightness and strength, throughout the entire body, it dramatically improves all the performance required of a mobile notebook PC.

It achieves a level of coexistence and coexistence that surpasses previous limits, combining elements that are inherently contradictory, such as overwhelming performance and long battery life.

We'll also introduce the "carbon fiber material," a key component of the "VAIO Z" body.

The carbon fiber material used in the body of the "VAIO Z" is a superior material that is lightweight, strong, and does not corrode like metal, and is also used in rockets and artificial satellites. Thousands to tens of thousands of carbon fibers, which are about 1/10 the thickness of a human hair (about 5 to 15 µm), are bundled together to create string-like strands, which are then bundled again to process into a sheet-like intermediate material called a prepreg. Regarding durability, a key concern for mobile use, it has cleared a drop of 127 cm from both the top and bottom surfaces, exceeding the US Department of Defense's MIL-STD-810H Logistic Transit Drop Test (*4). In addition, to verify durability and long-term reliability, VAIO conducts dozens of its own quality tests (*5) simulating various usage scenarios, as well as some tests conforming to MIL-STD standards.

Isetan Selection

The limited-edition Isetan Selection model features special specifications not normally available. Equipped with a Core i5 11300H processor, a 256GB fourth-generation high-speed SSD, and 16GB of memory, this black chassis features a specially selected "hidden-engraved keyboard (Japanese layout, no kana characters)," normally only available on the higher-end SIGNATURE EDITION model. The use of dark gray for the normally white keycap engravings makes it less conspicuous, highlighting the sophisticated design of the VAIO Z.
