[Feature] An interview with stylist Shone Matsumoto: "My Tailored Clothing Style" Autumn/Winter 2020
What brands and items do ISETAN MEN'S stylists themselves wear, and how do they style them, with what feelings and in what situations? A new series begins where we delve deeper into what you want to know, asking the stylists Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th floor = Men's Tailored Clothing, as if you were asking a friend for helpful information and recommendations.
Our first guest is Shone Matsumoto, a stylist in the men's tailored clothing section on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . At just 27 years old, she already has 7 years of experience in tailored clothing. Originally a fan of casual fashion, Matsumoto learned the fundamentals of tailoring and came to understand that "expensive items have a reason." Now, she enjoys tailored fashion while focusing on expressing her own individuality. "I want to share the appeal of tailored clothing with more young customers of my generation and increase the number of people who enjoy tailored clothing," says Matsumoto, and we hope her passionate desire reaches our customers...
Enjoy Matsumoto's unique fashion perspective along with three recommended autumn looks.
Please remember "Sean" and feel free to say hello when you visit our store!

──How do you pronounce your name, "Shoon"?
My name is Shoon Matsumoto. My mother gave me the name. The invited guests from Italy and other countries who come to the trunk shows at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building call me Sean, and it seems to be easy for them to remember. I like my name.
--Ms. Matsumoto, you joined the company in 2012, right?
Matsumoto : Yes, I was born in 1993 and joined the company in 2012. I joined Mitsukoshi Isetan because I wanted to work in customer service, and in 2014 I became a stylist on the 5th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building where I am currently working.
── Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th Floor = Please tell us about the appeal of men's tailored clothing.
Matsumoto 's selection of brands and products has been expanding year by year, and their taste in selections has also improved. The appeal of men's dress wear has been updated. Actually, when I first joined the company, I was young and not very interested in suits, but I've grown to like suits more and more each year.

--What's your latest hit item, Mr. Matsumoto?
Matsumoto: This is the Caruso "Butterfly" model that I bought this spring. It's a suit, but it has a relaxed fit and a nice casual feel, so I often wear it with a striped knit. The autumn/winter version of the Butterfly has vintage-style stripes on a gray background, and that's cool too.
──Are there any fashionistas you're keeping an eye on?
I also like the style of Nicola Radano of Spacca Neapolis , which carries the Matsumoto Necktie Collection. He's younger than me, and he wears every look well and has a great sense of individuality.
I want to make men my age look even cooler!
—Could you tell us about your particular style preferences?
Matsumoto Suits prioritizes "not being too casual" rather than "being too relaxed" when it comes to dressing, rather than aiming for a flawless look. For example, if you're pairing a suit with a knit or cut-and-sew top, you'll need to wear a neckerchief around your neck to maintain a sense of formality.
──Where can you learn those kinds of disruptive techniques?
Matsumoto : I learn a lot by observing my seniors in men's tailored clothing. Knowing the quality of the product lineup on the 5th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , and taking inspiration from how my seniors dress, my range of coordination expanded, and I arrived at my current style.

—How do you perceive your own individuality?
Matsumoto: I've always liked flashy things... I think I stand out a bit in the calm atmosphere of the 5th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building (laughs), but even when wearing a suit or jacket and trousers, I think it's okay to express more individuality without holding back. I'd be happy if customers would consult with me about things like "I want to wear this color" or "How to dress in a way that won't be the same as everyone else."
—What trends are you interested in for this fall/winter season?
Matsumoto Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th Floor = Men's tailored clothing is featuring "latte" and "monochrome" color schemes as trends. In particular, incorporating black into your styling will give you a very on-trend look this season, so be sure to check it out. Caruso is a recommended brand.
──What do you find interesting about customer service and sales?
Matsumoto: If people around my age and generation could discover the higher-quality suits and styling we carry on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , I'm sure they would find something new and be interested. The most important thing for me in customer service is making sure our customers have a good time, so I actively suggest unexpected items and I guarantee I'll make them look great!
Shone Matsumoto showcases three on- and off-duty styles.
Matsumoto, who enjoys tailoring with ease, whether in a classic or playful, relaxed style, presents three styling options for both on and off-duty occasions, ranging from authentic suits to business casual and weekend styles. The theme is "clarifying the scene," and he explains, "I selected items that I personally like to wear and that allow me to express my own style, as well as some challenging tie-up suits, all while keeping autumn in mind."

With the return to classic styles in autumn and winter, brushed fabrics like flannel are gaining attention, but I wanted to wear a proper suit, so I chose a gray herringbone suit. I also wanted to add my own personal touch to the classic look, so I added a striped shirt and a patterned tie to give it a touch of flair and playfulness, creating a style that I really like.
Styling 2. Jacket Style / On & Off

With this season's theme of "monochrome" in mind, we've chosen a sophisticated double-breasted suit with gold buttons, typical of TAGLIATORE , that can be worn casually in any situation. The turtleneck sweater, neckerchief, and glen check trousers create a relaxed yet stylish dress look. The overall impression is of a look perfect for going out after work; this outfit is suitable for everything from movies to dinner.

The concept behind this outfit is "mixed style." A suede outer layer is paired with a luxurious mock-neck knit and American casual-style military pants for a clean, mature casual look. I've finally reached the age where leather outerwear suits me, and a soft suede outer layer is versatile enough to wear anywhere without feeling too formal, so I think I'll be wearing it a lot this autumn and winter.
This year, especially during the period of staying at home, many people have likely taken the opportunity to declutter their homes and re-evaluate their wardrobes. We would be delighted to help each and every one of our customers choose high-quality items that they can cherish for a long time.
