Male staff members experience what it's like to wear heels. | ISETAN Shoe Fair 2020

Ken Akagi, buyer in charge of women's shoes on the 2nd floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, tried on heeled pumps in his own size and discovered what value he found.

I truly realized how amazing it is to wear pumps with such confidence.

Ken Akagi of Isetan Shinjuku had been wondering about something for some time. As the person in charge of women's shoes, he felt that he should try on pumps in his own size. So, he had a sample of 26.5 cm pumps made for himself at fascination. What did Akagi feel when he tried them on...?

"When I first started walking, I didn't know where to land. I was amazed at how effortlessly women could wear these shoes, and at the same time, I realized how difficult it is if you don't choose shoes that fit your feet properly."

The heeled pumps suited the tall man without looking out of place. "When I tried on pumps, I realized that unlike flat shoes, they're difficult to wear unless they're a pretty good fit. If they're too big they slip off, and if they're too small they get stuck in the front," said Akagi. He added a 1mm non-slip material to prevent his feet from sliding forward, resulting in a perfect fit.

Akagi said she had many other insights as the person in charge, such as the effectiveness of anti-slip inserts that are added afterward to prevent the foot from slipping inside the shoe, and the importance of the heel counter. However, her biggest discovery was the beauty of the line of the foot when wearing heeled pumps. Akagi continued:

"I want to create an environment where anyone, male or female, who thinks heels are cool can choose to wear them. I realized that again."
