[Feature] Voluminous styles are on-trend. 2020 Men's Sandal Recommendations

Until now, summer footwear has mainly consisted of sports sandals, a style influenced by outdoor wear. However, in recent years, sandals with thick soles, such as recovery sandals, have begun to attract attention as a new genre. Not only do they have thick soles that provide excellent shock absorption, but they can also help to enhance your style and, above all, they have a presence that can stand up to voluminous outfits, so they are appealing because they give off a fashionable look that is "deliberate" rather than "just because." This time, we've picked out some trendy sandals along with outfits that can be put together at ISETAN MEN'S !

Matching the design style and colors creates a well-coordinated look.

Oversized silhouettes have been a major trend in recent years, and voluminous footwear has also become more common to match. One reason for this is that it's difficult to balance an outfit without impactful footwear. For example, when pairing an oversized T-shirt with loose-fitting pants, basic sneakers create an unbalanced look and inevitably lack punch. Therefore, in recent years, many outfits on the runways, especially those by high fashion brands, have featured voluminous sneakers (including leather shoes) to create a balanced look.

However, these sandals are also recommended for those who are hesitant about oversized silhouettes. Adding volume only to the feet with a slim, I-line silhouette creates a very cohesive look. So, here are three outfits from three trendy brands. The best approach is to match the colors or pick up on the design of the top to suit the characteristics of each design. Combining them with a resort feel is also a good idea. It's best to have fun thinking about outfits by using the right items in the right places.

1. 1017 ALYX 9SM

Relaxing sandals with eye-catching buckle design.

Matthew Williams, the designer of 1017 Alyx 9SM, was recently appointed as the new artistic director of GIVENCHY . Since the brand originally excelled at creating accessories, their sandals also boast a sophisticated design. The defining design element is the brand's signature cobra buckle. These easy-to-wear slip-on slide sandals feature a cushioned footbed for added comfort. They're perfect for street style, as well as adding a touch of modern casual style.

Linking military aesthetics with material textures.

For the overall coordination, I wanted to make good use of the military feel of the cobra buckle. The mesh shirt, similar to those often seen in military-style innerwear, is from OAMC. The silver hardware on the sandals matches the gray of the shirt, and the glossy finish of the leather links with the glossy finish of the shorts, creating a sense of unity. The shorts are from Amachi, a brand by a promising Japanese designer. The flared silhouette goes well with the voluminous sandals.

2. Hender Scheme

A familiar design given a fresh twist with a "kamaboko" (fish cake) sole.

The upper is made of vegetable-tanned vachetta leather from an Italian tannery. The design is basic and familiar, but the signature "kamaboko" sole of Hender Scheme makes a big impact. The leather is thick but soft, and as you wear them in, they will break in and become more comfortable and conform to your feet. The design holds the heel securely, making them extremely easy to walk in, and they are also very lightweight.

With a resort feel in mind, create a sophisticated yet relaxed look.

This outfit takes advantage of the basic design of the sandals and creates a resort-like look. A Barbara Aran shirt, showcasing her expert cotton bonding technique, is paired with OAMC's drawstring pajama-style pants to emphasize a relaxed feel. The voluminous silhouette of the top, bottom, and sandals is very on-trend. The smooth textures of cotton, leather, and silk contribute to the cohesive look.

3. FUMITO GANRYU

It enhances the sporty and lighthearted mood.

This collaboration model with Suicoke, a brand that has now partnered with numerous famous brands, features a uniquely developed EVA footbed in the sole. It offers both a flexible feel and excellent rebound. The upper is made of PVC material, with a drawstring detail on the outside that creates a serpentine accent. The large, Velcro-like design provides a secure and comfortable fit.

Incorporating an outdoor aesthetic, creating a rugged yet urban look.

For the top, I chose a colorful 100% polyester open-collar shirt. The lower part of the body is adorned with a vivid color code, which echoes the design of the sandals. The body is printed with a tropical botanical pattern, evoking an exotic mood. For the bottoms, I selected Bybore, a popular Dutch brand known for its use of technical materials. The 9/10 length makes the legs look neat. The front is made of Gore-Tex Infinium, and the back, from the hips to behind the knees, is made of a unique computer-generated knit material that combines waterproofing, water repellency, and breathability. The overall look is a sophisticated urban style, put together in a single tone of black.
