From Wednesday, June 10th to Friday, July 10th, Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 2nd floor, Men's Creators "ART UP" will host "BETTER THAN BEFORE BREAKING," a collaborative exhibition between the up-and-coming fashion brand MAISON EUREKA and artist Ryohei Sasaki.

MAISON EUREKA × RYOHEI SASAKI

This collaborative project was born from a chance encounter between Ryohei Sasaki, a popular artist based in Fukuoka, and Yurika Nakatsu, the designer of Maison Eureka, which is currently attracting a lot of attention in the fashion industry. Titled "BETTER THAN BEFORE BREAKING," the exhibition is inspired by "kintsugi," the art of repairing broken pottery, and embodies the unique Japanese culture of creating something even better by rebuilding something that has been broken, as well as the hope and wishes that everyday life, which has been shattered by the recent COVID-19 pandemic, will recover and become better.

During the exhibition, T-shirts created with inspiration from each other's work, sneakers featuring iconic tile motifs hand-stenciled by Sasaki, and Sasaki's artwork and postcards will be on display and for sale.


PROFILE


RYOHEI SASAKI

Born in 1985 in Fukuoka Prefecture, she began working as a live painter based in Fukuoka in 2007. Her distinctive style features handwritten works that resemble prints, using everyday natural objects such as stones, rocks, and water as motifs. In 2013, she received the GEISAI Award from kaikaikiki at the LIVEPAINTING DOJO. Since then, she has expanded her activities to include holding solo exhibitions in Tokyo and designing fashion items for magazines such as "THE DAY" and "BEAMS Harajuku."
Yurika Nakatsu
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1984. After working as a select shop buyer and shoe designer, she visited Germany in 2011 and was captivated by Berlin's unique underground yet creative culture and lifestyle. She moved to Berlin in 2013 and launched her own brand, MAISON EUREKA, in 2014, where she continues to work today.
