J.PRESS , a pioneering brand that established the status of traditional style and created the Ivy League look, has collaborated with KENNETH FIELD, a brand whose designer Kenichi Kusano develops collections based on American traditional style from the 1980s onward, while also drawing inspiration from cultures around the world and topics from different eras. This special collaboration brings together exclusive products that fans will be thrilled to see.

J.PRESS and Kenneth Field's monumental first collection

For the first collaboration, the Spring/Summer 2020 collection, based on the concept of "basic and essential items for a man's wardrobe," they will release a tropical blazer made from original merino wool, a suit set with Gurkha trousers, a cleric shirt, and Kenneth Field's signature item, the "4face tie."

This collection came about because J.PRESS had long been interested in Kenneth Field, but it's not a one-off collaboration; they plan to release collections over several seasons. Kenneth Field designer Kusano commented, "American traditional style has a rigid image and many rules, but I want people to try it out and enjoy it."

The blazer, a signature item of J.PRESS , features an original lining. With details such as a half-lined back to cope with Japan's hot and humid climate, and gold buttons specially created for this collection, it embodies both practicality and luxury, making it a garment that can be cherished for many years.

Furthermore, this model is designed to be both more traditional and modern than the standard model. The waist has been widened to create a classic I-shape form, while the length has been adjusted to give it a contemporary silhouette.



The Gurkha trousers are available in two materials: a tropical fabric made with J.PRESS 's unique merino wool and a blend of T/C poplin. These spring/summer materials cleverly express the backgrounds of both brands, making them a must-have item for your wardrobe, and you can also enjoy coordinating them as a set.

This "T/C poplin" material is actually the same material used in a suit that Mr. Kusano himself purchased more than ten years ago at the now-defunct J.PRESS flagship store in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It holds a special place in his heart and evokes a strong sense of American traditional style.

According to Mr. Kusano, while American general clothing has changed considerably in silhouette and details over the years, the most distinctive feature is the material. From an era dominated by natural fibers, to the development of washing machines, the need for quick-drying and shrink-resistant materials arose, leading to the development of polyester blends to meet this demand for functionality. It can be said that this material became mainstream precisely because America has evolved in pursuit of rationality.

A "4face tie" is also available, which allows you to enjoy four different patterns depending on how you tie it.

The "4face tie" is a staple item that has been around since Kenneth Field's first collection in 2012. As the name suggests, it can be worn in four different ways, allowing you to enjoy four different patterns.

For this collaboration, we focused on navy-based combinations suitable for business settings, selecting stripes and small patterns from J.PRESS 's archive fabrics, and a leaf and peace pattern from Kenneth Field. The result is a versatile tie that can also be enjoyed as an accent to casual outfits.

As Mr. Kusano explains, "It embodies the aspirations of both brands, who have proposed a new mixed style while understanding the classics." With Cool Biz becoming widespread and the culture of wearing ties in summer fading, the collection also reflects the desire for people to "enjoy wearing ties rather than feel obligated to do so."
