2020.03.11 update

Shoemakers from Japan and abroad have created new shoe lasts specifically for millennials, exclusively for Isetan Men's Store.

The generation born between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, roughly aged 25 to 34, is called the "Millennial generation." As digital natives who grew up with smartphones, PCs, and game consoles readily available, this generation is adept at using social media daily and has a strong interest in social issues. They are also said to have distinctive foot shapes, as they commonly wear highly cushioned sneakers and have little experience with leather shoes.

Therefore, shoe lasts made before the 1980s were based on foot shapes for Generation X and the baby boomer generation, and have been considered difficult to fit for millennials. In particular, many young people probably feel that their heels tend to slip out of loafers and other slip-on shoes.

Therefore, ISETAN MEN'S has commissioned major domestic and international brands to create shoe lasts specifically for millennials. They will be offering exclusive models designed to fit the feet of young people who find that classic shoes no longer fit. These shoes are designed for splayed feet, have a slightly wider width, a low instep near the toes, and a smaller heel. The centerline is shifted inward to ensure proper weight distribution and comfortable walking. The form is smart, and the slightly elongated toe gives them a modern look.

Brands offering millennial lasts include renowned Japanese shoe brands such as REGAL , Otsuka, and SCOTCH GRAIN , as well as popular brands at ISETAN MEN'S such as JALAN SRIWIJAYA , and the long-established British shoemaker BARKER . The series offers a diverse range of models, including those with rubber soles and those featuring Gore-Tex booties. These lasts are a must-try not only for millennials but also for anyone dissatisfied with their current shoe last.
