The renowned author Ken Kaiko, who became like a brother to Shimaji, was so captivated by the pipe tobacco that he reportedly smoked throughout his life, asking, "Shimaji, what is that lewd scent?" This pipe tobacco is Shimaji's original mixture, "Hellenism."


Shimaji : "I used to alternate between pipe tobacco from a tobacco shop in New York and one from a tobacco shop in Los Angeles, but one day, when I was running low on both, I tried mixing them. This created an unexpected chemical reaction, producing a unique aroma and flavor. When I smoked that blend with Mr. Kaiko, he said, 'What a sensual scent. Let me try some,' and he did. He's liked it ever since, and because it was a fusion of East and West, he named it 'Hellenism'."


As I mentioned before, Dunhill's Authors Pipes are now available as an original Salon de Shimaji model.

Katsuhiko Shimaji is the producer of the Isetan Men's Residence Salon de Shimaji, located on the 8th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . Born in 1941, he graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University and joined Shueisha. He was assigned to "Weekly Playboy" and became its editor-in-chief in 1983, where he created a sensation with the "Life Advice" column featuring Renzo Shibata, Toko Kon, and Ken Kaiko as respondents, growing the magazine into a million-copy publication. He later served as editor-in-chief of "PLAYBOY Japan" and "BART." After serving as the representative director of Shueisha International, he retired in 2008. He is currently a writer and essayist.
