SHAKA was founded in South Africa in the 1990s, producing high-quality, original sandals inspired by traditional African woven footwear in its own factory. Riding the wave of the outdoor boom, the brand gained recognition and was widely sold in Japan in the late 1990s, but disappeared in the early 2000s when the boom ended. After that, it became a niche brand popular in the vintage clothing market, and after more than a decade, it was revived in 2013.
