The project's theme is "Japanese Tradition and New"—Masataka Sakao, the creative director of the popular brand TATRAS , has launched the REVEAL PROJECT, a project brand that re-examines his Japanese identity and aims to create a future based on Japanese history and culture, after challenging the world through fashion.

The first in a series of collaborations with Kyoto's Kimura Sensho, a pop-up shop featuring all seven types of Kyoto-style hand-dyed cat yuzen blousons will be held from Wednesday, October 31st at the International Creators section on the 2nd floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

Reveal Project, a new project brand that was unveiled during Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018-19 and attracted attention from all over the world, embodies the meaning of "revealing" or "uncovering" what was previously hidden. This reflects a strong intention to promote Japan's excellent traditional culture to the world.

For the first release, we teamed up with Kimura Sensho, a Kyoto dyeing company that is challenging itself in a new genre by utilizing the designs and techniques of Kyoto hand-painted Yuzen dyeing, to create seven types of bomber jackets that make use of Kyoto hand-painted Yuzen techniques.

The motifs include seven types, such as Ito Jakuchu, Kawanabe Kyōsai, and the Yōkō no Matsu (Pine Tree of Divine Appearance).

Kimura Sensho's main business is overseeing the entire process of creating Kyoto-style hand-dyed cat-patterned yuzen kimonos, which are produced through numerous division of labor, and directing the artisans. A Kyoto-style hand-dyed cat-patterned yuzen kimono goes through more than 15 steps to be completed.

The silk bomber jackets created in collaboration with Kimura Sensho come in seven designs: "YUZEN on ROOSTER," featuring Ito Jakuchu's "Shamo" (fighting cock) on the back; "YUZEN on SKULL," showcasing Kawanabe Kyōsai's "Skull and Lizard"; "YUZEN on MATSU," inspired by the "Yōkō no Matsu" (Emergence Pine) depicted on Noh stages; as well as "YUZEN on DRAGON," "YUZEN on PRINCESS," "YUZEN on YUI," and "YUZEN on RAKUJU." Everything from the initial sketches to the dyeing and embroidery is done by hand by skilled artisans, making them truly worth seeing.

Furthermore, the Kyoto Hand-Dyed Cat Yuzen Coat, from the Spring/Summer 2019 collection unveiled in Paris, France in late September, will be available exclusively at ISETAN MEN'S . This coat is inspired by kimonos from the Edo period.


Expectations are high for the Reveal Project, which will showcase Japan's amazing technology and culture to the world through the lens of fashion.
