"It's okay to express your individuality through your suit" - Yuta Umemoto

My first suit was for my university entrance ceremony, and the suit I wore for job hunting was my second. I chose both myself. For job hunting, I mainly wore a slim-fitting, light-colored navy suit with a fashionable touch, and I also rotated between two suits: a plain black suit that was more of a "typical recruitment" suit for more conservative industries like finance.

I wore a plain black suit as a kind of insurance to dispel the lingering doubt in my mind that "maybe I failed because of the color of my suit?" I mainly wore a plain navy suit because I wanted to be remembered for my first impression. Even if it ended up being a "negative attention-grabber," I thought I could compensate for it and turn things around by speaking logically.

Regarding attire, I think it's best to distinguish between industries that "require individuality" and those that "don't require so much individuality" depending on the industry you're applying to. Looking back, I think it would have been okay to show more individuality. Of course, you need to have substance as well, but it's okay to express your individuality through your suit. I was even told by a company that offered me a job, "Umemoto-kun stood out because his suit was unique," so I think you shouldn't be too negative about it. I felt that how you make your suit your own is one of the key points.
