For his selection of "exceptional trousers," Yuki Yamaura, the buyer in charge of international luxury on the 4th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building chose four brands: ANDERSON&SHEPPARD, AMBROSI ( a brand without which one cannot discuss sartorial trousers today), PRINCIPE D'ELEGANZA ( which is establishing a unique position as a "handmade factory"), and ROTA ( popular for its refined machine-made craftsmanship).

"If you trace the roots of the classic sartorial trousers that are currently mainstream, you'll find them all in these brands. Another reason we picked them is that they showcase the potential of trousers in the current trend of 'from slimmer to more detailed'," says Yamaura.

My interest in so-called sartorial trousers began largely after I met Hayato Osaku, a trouser specialist (pantalonaior), and I felt that the handiwork seen in suits and jackets was starting to be focused on trousers as well. I want you to experience the sincere approach to craftsmanship and the delicate silhouettes and comfortable fit that result from it in these four brands.

Anderson & Sheppard: Timeless and exceptional design unaffected by trends

The highlight of "Laccolta Artigiano" (Italian for "artisan's collection"), an in-house curated international luxury section on the 4th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building which launched last autumn, is Anderson & Sheppard, a Savile Row tailor founded in 1906. Currently, their ready-made items are almost completely sold out, and they are mainly focusing on made-to-order items. There are two types of trousers, trousers and Gurkhas, and customers can select from 40 to 50 different materials. Specifications such as pleats, fly fronts, and waistbands can also be chosen.

Gurkha trousers feature a high rise and two pleats, giving them an overall classic look, but the way they conform to your body the more you wear them is exceptional. They are the epitome of a timeless trouser design that is essential for any man.

AMBROSI creates a "three-dimensional" silhouette that follows the curve of the legs.

AMBROSI
Pants ¥118,800 ■ Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 4th Floor = International Luxury

The reason we call them artisan pants is that when you lay AMBROSI pants on a flat surface like a table, the legs ripple and cannot be folded neatly. This is proof that the fabric is carefully bent with an iron to match the lines of the legs, a process called "shaping," which gives the pants a fuller shape when worn, and is also proof of the handcrafted work.

Furthermore, reinforced "bar tacks" can be seen throughout the important parts of the trousers that experience stress, a testament to the handcrafted nature of the garment. The areas that are subjected to stress during movement are made with softer fabric, resulting in a remarkable difference in how the trousers fit around the waist. Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 4th floor, offers ready-made trousers with side adjusters made from Hardy Minnis' Fresco fabric.

Principe di Eleganza proposes more modern patterns.

Principe di Eleganza, which held a bespoke order event this spring, produces trousers of tailor-grade quality in a workshop on the outskirts of Naples. They have a strong reputation for their pattern-making work, such as creating a "Japan model" for Isetan Men's bespoke orders that utilizes classic Neapolitan tailoring, and they skillfully combine hand and machine work, and also offer Gurkha trousers in their ready-to-wear line.

The appeal of Rota is that it can be worn for everyday use.

Based in Parma, Italy, Lota is a highly popular brand known for its refined, machine-made craftsmanship. Despite being a factory brand, they pay meticulous attention to ironing to remove creases, resulting in a three-dimensional silhouette. The details, including two pleats, side adjusters, a fly front, and brace buttons, are classic specifications, giving the trousers a superior finish compared to typical factory brands, and attracting many fans.
