Nishikawa Seibo is a Japanese hat manufacturer founded in 1894 by Jinpei Nishikawa. Bunjiro, named after the fourth generation owner, Bunjiro Nishikawa, continues to make hats by hand, carrying on over 120 years of tradition and skill.

The Bunjiro Promotion, which will be held from Wednesday, April 4th at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1st floor, Seasonal Goods & Accessories section, will introduce new Panama hats, and on Saturday, April 7th and Sunday, April 8th, there will be a custom order event where you can have a hat made to your liking.

Currently, the production is mainly handled by young craftsmen in their 30s to 50s who are being guided by Mr. Bunjiro. Hat making is primarily done by hand, and they work diligently, sparing no time or effort.

The hat-making techniques have been passed down through generations, with designs and sizes adapted to the times. Currently, they use around 15 different styles, including "Tsumami," "Basic," and "Sujiiri." Using traditional tools that are now difficult to obtain, such as unique wooden and metal molds made to fit the round head shape of Japanese people, and presses that have been in use since before the war, they create hats with high skill and carefully selected natural materials.

Attaching accessories with a sewing machine requires precise technique and delicate handling, and attaching ribbons to the curves of the hat demands expert skill. The craftsman's skill is evident in every detail.

Panama hat: 29,700 yen

During the promotion period, the lineup will include new Panama hats from the Spring/Summer 2018 collection, specially made to fit Japanese head shapes. Additionally, a two-day limited-time order event will allow you to customize your hat to your liking, choosing the style, material, color, ribbon, and more. The 5th generation owner, Aya Nishikawa, will be present on both days, so we recommend consulting with her to create your perfect hat.
