Tote bag: 205,200 yen (38 x 36 x 15 cm)
Clutch bag: ¥91,800 (18 x 30 x 6 cm)

The "indigo dyeing" technique used in the new bags released this time is a dyeing method that uses a natural indigo dye made from the leaves of the plant to create a blue color. Japanese indigo is widely known around the world as "JAPAN BLUE," and indigo dyeing from Tokushima Prefecture is done using a technique called "fermentation dyeing" with "Awa indigo" as the raw material, and is designated as an intangible cultural property of Tokushima Prefecture as Awa genuine indigo dyeing.

This "fermentation dyeing" method involves finely chopping indigo leaves, fermenting them to create sukumo, which is then dissolved in lye to make a dye solution. Because it's not possible to achieve a deep color in one go, the dyeing, washing, squeezing, and drying processes are repeated many times. The indigo, oxidized in the cold well water unique to the Awa region, builds up in layers, resulting in a rich, deep color.
The indigo plant, the raw material for the dye, takes a year to produce by hand. It takes six months from seed to growing the leaves, and another six months to create sukumo, the humus used to make the dye from the harvested leaves.

This time, in addition to the new Awa indigo dyed products, we will also be holding a pattern order event where you can choose your favorite color from a wide variety of options. This will be a valuable opportunity to experience the depth of Japanese craftsmanship.
