Q. How should I care for and store leather gloves?
A. Dry wiping and brushing are the basics.

Many people feel that they want to keep high-quality leather gloves for as long as possible. Some of our customers have been using their gloves for over 10 years. To help you enjoy your leather gloves for a long time, as they mold to your hands and develop a rich character with continued use, Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building recommends the following care methods.

▷ Gently wipe away dirt from leather with a dry cloth.
Attempting to remove dirt by washing with water or using benzine may cause discoloration or hardening of the leather's texture.

▷ Brush using a horsehair brush.

Gently brush with a soft horsehair brush, or for localized stains, gently wipe with a clean eraser.

▷The key to making them last longer is to rotate multiple pairs of gloves and give them a rest.

Wearing the same gloves every day puts a strain on the leather. Rotate between two or three different pairs of gloves to give them a rest. Changing gloves to match your outfit each day is also a good idea.

▷Storage methods for the next season

If stored as is, the leather parts may develop mold, and the cashmere lining may be damaged by insects. First, check the materials used in the gloves and store them using the method best suited to those materials.
Storing them in a paulownia wood box with insect repellent and preservative will keep them in good condition until the next season.

Q. Please tell me about the materials and stitching methods used in the gloves.
A. There are seven types of materials, and various variations exist depending on the stitching and lining specifications.

▷Materials mainly used for gloves
a. Sheepskin, b. Deerskin, c. Peccary leather, d. Suede, e. Mouton, f. Cashmere knit, g. Wool knit

▷Difference in sewing specifications : Left/Inside stitching: Gives a smart impression.
Right-side/outside stitching: Gives a casual look.

If you want to minimize bulk when wearing gloves, choose a design without a lining. Removing the lining reduces thickness, creating a sleeker look and giving your hands an elegant appearance. Furthermore, choosing a design with internal stitching results in a sharper silhouette, making them a perfect match for suits.

▷Difference in lining specifications Left/No lining: You can directly experience the feel of the leather.
Right/Lined: Cashmere or wool lining provides warmth.

If you prioritize warmth when choosing gloves, we recommend those with a cashmere lining. The insulating cashmere lining will keep your hands warm and gently envelop them, providing a comfortable fit.

Q. What length should I measure to determine the correct glove size?

A. Your size is the circumference of your palm. Please measure correctly.

Glove size is determined by measuring the circumference of your palm in centimeters, which is measured from the starting point of your life line (approximately at the first joint of your dominant hand's thumb) to a point one-third of the way from your wrist along a line connecting the base of your little finger to your wrist.

The measurements you take are a guideline for choosing the right glove size. The leather may stretch slightly as you wear it and it will conform to the size of your hand. While it depends on your preference for how the gloves fit, we recommend choosing a size that fits snugly at first. If you have difficulty measuring your hands, our store stylists will take your measurements for you.

Q. How well do gloves and outerwear go together?
A. Broadly speaking, they can be divided into dressy and casual. It's important to have a clear idea of the outerwear you want to wear with them.

*The examples shown here are just a few examples.

[Inner-stitched leather gloves x wool coat]

For a coat exuding classic elegance and sophistication, we recommend gloves with a sharp silhouette and internal stitching. Furthermore, coordinating the color of the gloves with accessories such as bags, shoes, and ties will elevate your look to the next level.

[Outer-stitched leather gloves x Oiled cloth jacket]

For a tough, masculine look with an oiled cloth jacket, peccary leather gloves are highly recommended. The unique grain and sheen of peccary leather complement the jacket perfectly. The more you use them, the more character they develop, and the more they conform to your hands—the goodness of peccary leather is addictive.

[Externally stitched leather (suede) gloves x Down jacket]

Suede gloves are a great match for the sporty look of a down jacket. Wearing formal gloves with a casual jacket can make your hands stand out too much, throwing off the balance of your outfit. Many suede gloves offer a casual yet sophisticated design, making them versatile enough for any occasion.

[One-point tip! Glove technique that can be used as a handkerchief]

Another advanced technique, often seen at events like Pitti Uomo, is to tuck gloves into the breast pocket of your coat as a substitute for a pocket square. The open fingers add a touch of elegance to the chest area. While subtly chic gloves in a similar color are a good choice, using them as a pop of color to add a focal point to your outfit is also highly recommended.
