The first ever bespoke order event for the luxury men's shoe brand JOHN LOBB will be held at Isetan Men's on Saturday, March 25th. In addition to experiencing the essence of the brand, which was born as a bespoke shoemaker, a special bespoke model called "GESTURE" will also be on display.

Exquisite skin stitching, the finest materials only bespoke can offer, and an intricate Norwegian welt—the special model "GESTURE" was born in JOHN LOBB 's bespoke atelier at 32 Rue Mogado in Paris.

Bespoke shoes take even highly skilled craftsmen about 50 hours to make a single pair. This artistic process is showcased on John Lobb's official website. Videos are also available at the following site.

The bespoke process allows you to fully enjoy the essence of shoemaking.

At Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building foot measurements are taken by John Lobb Japan's bespoke manager , who has been trained by a master last maker in Paris. Customers can select the model, design, leather material, heel height, sole, and special specifications.

The next step, the "trial (fitting)," will be about six months later. The trial shoes will arrive from Paris, you will check the fitting, and the last (shoe mold) will be finished to be more precise. The finished product will then be delivered about six months after the trial.

After "measurement and consultation" at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , I headed to the atelier in Paris.

Following the initial appointment at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , JOHN LOBB bespoke shoemaking process begins with last creation. A hornbeam wood is carefully hand-carved, using traditional methods to create a unique last. Once the last is complete, a pattern is cut from high-quality, flawless leather based on precise measurements. Then, a three-dimensional form is shaped from this single piece of leather.

Next, the cut pieces of leather are prepared for artistic stitching. Fire and water are used along with tools to give the leather a more beautiful finish, and the intricate stitching, performed with high skill, creates a sophisticated and beautiful design.

The beautifully and meticulously cut upper material is stretched and wrapped along the last, and then decorated with ornate Norwegian stitching, a technique only a select few skilled craftsmen can perform. From the precisely crafted form, the finishing touches using natural forces such as fire and water, to the soles and other details that are painted like a beautiful picture, everything is a testament to the skills that JOHN LOBB can be proud of.

The final step is to apply a thin layer of cream with a brush, much like painting, and then use a brush to remove any excess while thoroughly working it into the leather.
