Nigel Cabourn | "Superb" details that appeal to men's hearts - The "British Army Jacket" that encapsulates the Spring/Summer 2017 season.

This season, designer Nigel Cabourn is inspired by the North African campaign of World War II in the 1940s—the season's theme, "The Desert Rats," is based on vintage clothing worn by the British army in the harsh desert terrain. The "British Army Jacket," exclusively at Isetan Shinjuku Store , is a more condensed version of this theme.

Yuji Endo of Nigel Cabourn, an authentic casual brand on the 7th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building appeared wearing a Henley neck shirt and his own vintage British Army trousers. "This is the third time I've worn it. The wrinkles that are unique to linen material are gradually becoming more worn in, and the details that faithfully reproduce the original are starting to stand out," he said.

British Army Jacket: ¥57,240

A linen-blend shirt jacket that can be enjoyed even in summer.

The safari jacket featured in this collection is based on the bush jacket worn by the British Army in desert warfare in the 1940s. This jacket strongly reflects this season's theme, and the fabric is a cotton-linen blend, the same as that used in the women's collection's dresses. You can enjoy the unique sheen and wrinkles that come with a linen blend, and its excellent breathability makes it a great layering piece for the height of summer.

This season's collection skillfully expresses the season's theme with colors like olive and khaki, but this safari jacket comes in only one color: British khaki. The wide range of sizes, from 46 to 50, is also a major plus, making it suitable for a variety of body types.

Packed with Nigel Cabourn's signature attention to detail.

It's well known that Nigel Cabourn's items don't have any parts that are just for show; every detail has a purpose, and this safari jacket's four large pockets and one small pocket are another example of that.

The small pocket on the chest is designed to hold a small knife. In desert warfare, soldiers often crawled to avoid tank attacks, so the pocket was made very shallow to allow for quick retrieval of the knife in emergencies. While this type of pocket is not used today, it's a detail that appeals to men's sensibilities, reflecting the way of life of the warriors of that era.

Furthermore, the use of a hook instead of a button at the top of the collar reveals the strict details of military uniforms from that era.

We recommend using the eyelets on the belt to cinch the waist.

The most distinctive feature of this safari jacket is its wide waist belt, which has three rows of eyelets and a custom-made three-pronged buckle. The original from the 1940s had a buckle that was a pointed needle that was inserted directly into the belt for adjustment, but this time the belt is also custom-made. You can use the eyelets on the belt to cinch the waist, tie it loosely like a trench coat, tie it at the back, or wear it without the belt for a cleaner look. It is recommended to wear it with the belt to enjoy the design.

Furthermore, the back features action pleats to ensure ample freedom of movement and ease of movement, making arm movements significantly easier. The deep center vent is also a remnant of a design feature that made it easy to access weapons when wearing a belt around the waist and lifting the jacket.

"Today I'm wearing a Henley neck shirt for a clean look, but you can also wear it with a scarf or, because it's slightly longer than a tailored jacket, you can enjoy a more formal look by wearing it with a tie," says Endo.

The key colors for this season are khaki, olive, and beige.

The spring/summer collection, themed "The Desert Rats," features numerous items made from natural materials suitable for the season, similar to the safari jackets. While Nigel Cabourn is usually associated with navy and olive, the use of khaki in line with the theme is a refreshing change.

Furthermore, the collection features a linen series printed with both the British military's unique "DPM camo" and the American military's "frogskin" patterns on both sides, as well as a three-piece jersey version of the brand's signature Mallory jacket , showcasing Nigel Cabourn's meticulous attention to detail.
