Nigel Cabourn | Clothing that exudes masculine romance: "MALLORY JACKET"

Located on the 7th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building Nigel Cabourn is one of the leading brands representing authentic casual wear, created by British designer Nigel Cabourn. The brand's iconic piece is the "MALLORY JACKET," a modern revival of the jacket worn by George Mallory, a member of the British Everest expedition team.
Yuji Endo of Nigel Cabourn talks about Mallory jackets, saying, "The oldest Mallory jacket I own is five years old, but it's my favorite, and to me, it's more than just something I'm attached to."

Why Nigel's Mallory jackets are "the real deal"

In this modern age, with its advanced manufacturing methods and techniques, there are countless "good quality" garments, but perhaps only a handful of clothes can truly be called "authentic."

Nigel Cabourn's Mallory jacket naturally uses British-made cotton Ventile and Harris Tweed, a British royal warrant holder that originated on the Isle of Harris in northwestern Scotland in the 18th century and is still dyed, spun, and hand-woven by the islanders. It perfectly blends superb materials with life-saving details for high altitudes, such as pockets designed not to restrict movement, and a collar that can be turned up and the gorge line fastened at the throat to make it perfect cold weather gear.

Furthermore, we've had customers come in saying, "I wanted to try wearing this after learning about the story of the British Everest Expedition, who attempted to climb Mount Everest for the first time," proving that the clothing is "authentic" in that sense of romance and story.

Pair the Mallory jacket with voluminous pants for a stylish look.

I like to wear my Mallory jacket as my "outermost garment," so I wear a size 50, which is on the larger side. It looks good with a shirt and a vest made of the same material, or just a turtleneck sweater, or even with a tie, but because the jacket is thick, it goes well with chunky bottoms like wide chinos or military pants that have volume to match its thickness.

I own three jackets myself, but some of my customers own more than ten, saying, "I only wear jackets like these." When I talk to them, they say, "The longer you wear them, the cooler they look," and it seems there's something about them that only the wearer can understand.

In that sense, the Mallory jacket is both an entry point and a culmination of the appeal of Nigel Cabourn's clothing, so I hope many people will wear it.

This season, be sure to check out the "black" Mallory jacket.

This fall/winter season, we're offering basic colors: black, navy, and charcoal gray. These three colors are perfect for those trying a Mallory jacket for the first time. The other colors available in stores are from previous seasons, but they're popular with customers who say, "I don't already own this color."

Nigel Cabourn's key colors are navy and olive, and navy is the most popular color for the Mallory jacket, but this season, "black," a color they haven't produced much of before, is fresh and highly recommended.

Designer Nigel loves to have fun and has a great sense of humor, but when the topic of clothes comes up, his eyes suddenly change, revealing his intense passion for clothing design. In a magazine interview, he said, "There's nothing that would make me happier than if the clothes I create become vintage in the future." We want to convey Nigel's feelings to our customers.
