In 2012, Junichiro Morinaga, who had experience as a shoemaker, and Takashi Ueno, whose main profession is interior design, discovered guarding leather and launched the brand Hoff. By utilizing this overlooked material and the skills of craftsmen, they create unique designs that are timeless and not influenced by trends.
From Wednesday, November 30th, a HOF pop-up store will be held at the Men's Accessories section on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

Good design utilizing "scraped leather"

When making shoes or bags, the process of "carding" is performed to ensure the leather is of uniform thickness. This process produces two types of leather: the "grain side," which is the outer layer of the hide that is normally sold as leather, and the "carded leather," which is the inner layer of the hide. We focus on this "carded leather," which is often discarded without being effectively utilized, and combine it with the "grain side" to transform it into something positive through the power of design, resulting in beautiful leather goods.
Originally, leather has countless wrinkles and scars etched into it throughout the animal's life, and its surface is not uniform. Hoff intentionally uses parts of the leather that are wrinkled or have scars to express the animal's natural texture.
Hoff offers a wide variety of colors, but at this pop-up event, we will also be offering a pre-sale of new "black" leather goods, such as wallets and coin cases.
