LOUIS VUITTON 's "Monogram" continues to evolve across time.

From Wednesday, July 6th, LOUIS VUITTON will be opening a limited-time pop-up store on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building primarily for promotional purposes. One of the highlights is the innovative collaboration with "fragment design," led by Hiroshi Fujiwara, but what's truly noteworthy is the new line "Monogram Eclipse," which served as the basis for that collaboration. Here, we'll take a look back at the origins of LOUIS VUITTON 's iconic "Monogram" pattern, from its creation to the present day.

Exactly 120 years ago, in 1896, the "Monogram Canvas" was created by Georges Vuitton, the second head of the Maison. The monogram, which combines plant motifs, geometric patterns, and the initials "LV" of his father, the founder, is said to have been inspired by the beautiful "family crests" of Japan, at a time when Europe was swept up in Japonism. In addition to its timeless design, the "Monogram Canvas" is lightweight, flexible, and highly durable, and has continued to evolve along with changing travel styles, remaining a symbol of the Maison and loved by travelers around the world.

The "Monogram Canvas" that captivates artists

Against this backdrop, the timeless appeal of the monogram has inspired many artists, leading to numerous collaborations.

From collaborations between Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince, who boldly fused "Monogram Canvas" with pop art, to six iconic figures active in the fields of fashion, architecture, art, and product design, six individuals created innovative works using "Monogram Canvas" with free-spirited ideas in 2014.

This collaboration bag with "fragment design," led by Hiroshi Fujiwara, will be sold exclusively at the pop-up store in Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

The exquisite contrast created by the interplay of gray and black in the "Monogram Eclipse" is timeless yet modern and cool. As a masculine canvas for the discerning gentleman, it ushers in a new era for the Monogram.

Kim Jones and Hiroshi Fujiwara share their thoughts on this special collaboration.

A limited-time LOUIS VUITTON pop-up store will open on Wednesday, July 6th, on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . It has also garnered significant attention due to a special collaboration with Fragment Design, the design project led by Hiroshi Fujiwara.

Regarding the store's opening, Kim Jones, Artistic Director of LOUIS VUITTON Men's Collection, commented, "Tokyo is a special city that always inspires me, and it is home to many important friends of mine. Following the success of our pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building last year, this year I wanted to present the collection from a different angle, so I asked Hiroshi Fujiwara, one of my heroes, to curate it. At the pop-up store, we will be presenting an exclusive capsule collection of items selected by his Fragment Design from the Fall/Winter 2016-2017 collection. The store design incorporates ideas from his latest concept store in Tokyo, The Parking."

Furthermore, Hiroshi Fujiwara commented, "A collaboration with Kim could have happened at any time for the past 20 years, but I feel very honored that it's happening at this perfect time, right here and now." This first collaboration between the two, who have been friends for a long time, is a must-see.

A limited-time pop-up store resulting from a collaboration between LOUIS VUITTON and Hiroshi Fujiwara, the head of fragment design, has finally opened on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . On its opening day, Wednesday, July 6th, the store was bustling with customers even before it opened.

The "black monogram" matched my style.

This capsule collection has garnered significant attention, particularly because approximately 60% of the items on display at the pop-up are "exclusive items that can only be purchased here in the world." This marks the second time LOUIS VUITTON has set up a limited-time store at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building The products, featuring both LOUIS VUITTON and Fragment Design logos, include a wide variety of items such as shoes, leather goods, and name tags, as well as the new "Monogram Eclipse" series, which consists of black and gray monograms.

Hiroshi Fujiwara, who curated the capsule collection, commented, "This time, we had LOUIS VUITTON , which is already a high-value brand, and my core fans took notice of it. The 'black monogram' also matched my style, so I think we were able to bring out the best in both. I felt like I was playing around within Louis Vuitton's standards, both in terms of the products and the store's appearance. Kim Jones and I had been talking about doing something together for a while, and it finally came to fruition. We still have other hobbies in common, so we talked about doing something together next time if there's an opportunity."

The interior design incorporates graphics found on clothing.

At the opening reception held before the store's opening, guests included Kim Jones and Hiroshi Fujiwara, Artistic Directors of LOUIS VUITTON Men's Collection, David Ponzo, CEO of Louis Vuitton Japan, Hiroshi Ohnishi, President and Representative Director of Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings, Takuya Matsuo, Senior Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of Sales, and Masaaki Takano, General Manager of Isetan Shinjuku Main Store.

Taisei said, "I am very pleased to be able to hold a second pop-up event with LOUIS VUITTON . I would like to thank David Ponzo for making 60% of the items on display in the store limited editions."

A collaboration attracting attention from around the world

Kaname Murakami, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of WWD Japan and Editor-in-Chief of Fashion News, who had been there since early morning to cover the event, said, "I've covered various events at Isetan before, but it's amazing to see such a long line. You can really feel the attention it's attracting from all over Asia. This capsule collection has the familiar Louis Vuitton style that adult men can wear, but it also features the iconic Fragment Design logo, making it appealing to street-style men who are fans of Hiroshi Fujiwara. The store's interior is also very interesting, as it retains Louis Vuitton's sophisticated atmosphere while also mixing in a rougher feel. I have high expectations for this collection."

The limited-time store will be open until Tuesday, July 19th. The collaboration items will be sold exclusively at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , and the new "Monogram Eclipse" series will be available at LOUIS VUITTON stores from Friday, July 15th.

[Event Report] An evening where MEN'S CLUB editor-in-chief Toshiki Toga and stylist Kenji Sakurai discuss LOUIS VUITTON

LOUIS VUITTON 's limited-time store was held from Wednesday, July 6th to Tuesday, July 19th. To commemorate its opening, on Friday, July 8th, a special one-night-only collaboration was held with the popular fashion magazine "MEN'S CLUB" (Hearst Fujingaho). The renowned editor-in-chief, Hirokuni Toga, and popular stylist Masayuki Sakurai were invited to an exclusive talk event focusing on the 2016-17 Autumn/Winter Men's Collection.

Cheer up a depressed Paris

Toshiki Toga appeared in a LOUIS VUITTON T-shirt, new denim jeans, and "Passenger Line Sneakers," while Kenji Sakurai appeared in a new military jacket and " Black Ice Line Ankle Boots."

I heard that a huge number of customers lined up at the Sakurai pop-up store on the first morning.
Toga: It's a social phenomenon now. Compared to the previous LOUIS VUITTON pop-up, I feel an incredible amount of power.
I heard that Ms. Sakurai Ido went to see the Fall/Winter 2016-17 collection exhibition in Korea.
Toga 's theme for the Fall/Winter 2016-17 season is "Future Heritage," and Kim Jones, the artistic director of the men's collection, is based in Paris, so last year's terrorist attacks were a very sad event for him as well. I felt that his collection conveyed a desire to "cheer up a depressed Paris."

The extraordinary talent of Kim Jones and the evolution of the brand

What impression did you get from the Sakurai exhibition?
Toga: As the theme "Future Heritage" suggests, I think a timeless line has been created by mixing LOUIS VUITTON 's historical archives with Kim's unique street culture.
Sakurai: The symbol of this is the new "Monogram Eclipse," which is based on gray and black and is a reinterpretation of LOUIS VUITTON 's iconic Monogram canvas.
What did Toga Sakurai think of the collection?
Sakurai: This fall/winter collection is a mixture of Kim's signature youth culture and street style in various items. Even the military jacket I'm wearing now looks authentic at first glance, but it has design details that are typical of a luxury brand.

Our latest denim, created out of our love for Okayama denim.

While Toga's "Monogram Eclipse" collection is certainly generating buzz, you shouldn't miss the pop-up store currently being held on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building you can purchase new denim items.
The jeans Ms. Sakurai Ido is wearing right now are a "regular fit," which has a little extra room around the thighs and waist. How do they feel to wear?
These are authentic Toga denim jeans, and I personally like the fit. The fact that they're made in Japan is also a plus.
In addition to the regular fit, there are also "slim" and "stretch skinny" styles, and a total of five colors, including washed. The inside also features the yellow stitching used on the bags, so you're sure to find your perfect pair of jeans.

Denim pants ¥73,440

The way the patch color changes depending on Toga's silhouette is a nice touch.
Sakurai , please do try them on at the pop-up store.
Besides Toga Denim, what are your favorite items?
Among the items in the Sakurai Collection, the "Marble Denim Jacket," which is made by dipping the fabric in wax to create unique cracks on each piece, is amazing. I love the way it's processed, and it's no exaggeration to call it a work of art.

Denim jacket: ¥236,520

The new "Monogram Eclipse" design is symbolic of the Fall/Winter collection.

Ms. Sakurai, which is your favorite item from the Monogram Eclipse collection? Toga: The Backpack Explorer . I heard that the drawstring at the top was inspired by women's bags, but you can also use it as a tote bag by loosening the drawstring and holding the handles. I heard it was the most popular item at the pop-up store, and I personally like how you can change how you carry it depending on the amount of luggage you have.
Sakurai: In the September issue of Men's Club, which goes on sale July 23rd (Saturday), we had Hiroyuki Hirayama hold the "Monogram Eclipse" bag for a photoshoot, and I thought it was a bag that fits a wide range of styles, from suits to casual wear. Mr. Toga could even use it for golf.
Toga : Also, the "Messenger Explorer" is great. The contrast created by the shading of gray and black, and the attention to detail in the parts such as the black and silver hardware, are exquisite.

Left: "Backpack Explorer" ¥312,120 Right: "Messenger Explorer" ¥204,120

Collection items that add color and individuality to your style.

Sakurai: Among the items in this pop-up store lineup, denim is the most noteworthy, but I also recommend the printed shirts and printed T-shirts inspired by Jean Cocteau. Also, the "Passenger Line Sneakers" that Toga is wearing are really cool.
Toga: These sneakers have a black monogram canvas upper and cowhide leather on the back. They would also look great with denim. The " Black Ice Line Ankle Boots" that Sakurai is wearing have a black monogram canvas welt, which is also a cool design.
Sakurai : Also, the stole has a presence that makes it the centerpiece of an outfit, even when paired with a simple coat or a tone-on-tone monochrome look.
Toga: And my recommendation is the " Tambour Monogram Eclipse " watch from the "Monogram Eclipse" collection. The dial, which is the first to feature the monogram pattern, is gray metallic and has an intellectual look with its 39mm size. The stitching on the strap of the regular model is black, but the Isetan limited edition has gray stitching. I'm wearing it right now, so please take a closer look.

Left: Fur stole ¥79,920 Right: "Tambour Monogram Eclipse" ¥339,120

--After the talk event

Toga: The most striking aspect of this collaboration between LOUIS VUITTON and Fragment Design is the "black monogram," but the long lines on the first day also left a strong impression, and I was reminded of the strength of the brand and the items themselves. In my personal opinion, I think that the generation that has admired and supported Hiroshi Fujiwara is now more willing to spend money. Also, I think that for Fujiwara, the collaboration with LOUIS VUITTON has opened up new possibilities for him, allowing him to come up with even more interesting ideas.
