Koh Kentetsu is a culinary expert. Looking into his lifestyle reveals a cutting-edge digital lifestyle.

"Mobile life is no longer just a part of life; it has become life itself. It's a healthy kind of dependence, an indispensable part of both work and leisure."

Apparently, she does most of her recipe creation and manuscript writing while traveling on airplanes or trains, in other words, on her mobile device.

"In that respect, the Surface Pro 4 is lightweight, easy to carry around, and easy to use. It's highly mobile, the keyboard is comfortable to type on, and I can quickly use the Surface Pen for handwriting input, which I find very helpful. Since I work while on the go, this size is just right. I have a large stock of images, such as pictures of food and my own recipes, so it's great that I can take a picture and save it directly. The image quality is good, so taking pictures is also a pleasure."


Kou, who frequently uploads photos of her cooking and children on Instagram, says the Surface Pro 4 is easy to use for that purpose as well. She says it has a camera and the Surface Pen makes photo editing easy.

"I often get sudden bursts of ideas when I'm looking at ingredients in the supermarket or seeing dishes in restaurants, but my smartphone is too small for taking notes, and I'm not comfortable typing. With the Surface Pro 4, I can quickly pull out the pen and start writing, which is great because it offers great responsiveness and mobility. It also has the power of a laptop, making it a reliable partner that supports my creativity."

The trends in cuisine change rapidly, and we have a responsibility to constantly keep up with the times.

"It's great that you can save both images and your own notes. With the Surface Pro 4, the process of taking a photo and editing it is seamless. Also, you can use touch input on the screen, keyboard input, or the Surface Pen—it adapts to the situation in a way that suits you best. It's flexible enough to accommodate productivity and creativity."

Kou-san often does location shoots both domestically and internationally. This means she has to bring her costumes, aprons, cooking utensils, and other equipment with her.

"The thinness and portability are definite advantages. The versatility of being usable as both a laptop and a tablet supports my active lifestyle. I tend to carry a lot of things like a digital camera and a laptop, but with this, all the functions are condensed into one device, which is very convenient. The long battery life despite its thinness is also a key point."

They visit various restaurants, obtain permission, photograph the food, and ask for recipes whenever possible.

"Surprisingly, many people are happy to share their recipes. Of course, they won't tell you the exact proportions, as that's a trade secret (laughs)."

Cooking expert Kou, who continues to hone her skills every day, maintains her mobile lifestyle alongside her Surface Pro 4.
