Anna Matozzo, a handmade shirt workshop in Naples that gained sudden attention during the classic Italian fashion boom of the 1990s, disappeared from the Japanese market for a time after the boom subsided. However, this spring, ready-made products will be available again at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1F, in the dress shirt and tie section. We spoke with buyer Takumi Sato, who longed for and made this revival a reality.

Anna Matozzo makes a comeback at Isetan Men's.

I've heard that quite a few Japanese people are traveling all the way to Naples, Anna Matozzo's hometown, to have their shirts custom-made because they can no longer be bought in Japan. So, we decided to revive this legendary brand, which had temporarily disappeared from the Japanese market, at Isetan Men's.
Isetan Salone Men's, which opened in Marunouchi, Tokyo last December, already carries Anna Matuozzo's ready-made shirts, and we've received feedback from customers who were very surprised, which has exceeded our expectations.

If I had to describe the appeal of Anna Matuozzo in one word, it would be "the world's only shirt that doesn't have an industrial feel at all, but instead exudes a sense of 'artistic quality'." In the past, semi-handmade Anna Matuozzo shirts were available in Japan, but that's not the essence of her work. Her true strength lies in the full hand-finishing that gives everything a soft touch. The shirts that Isetan Men's carries are, of course, "13-point" full-hand shirts. Based on the origin of shirts as underwear, every part that touches the skin, including the straight lines that are usually finished with a sewing machine, is done by hand.


Anna Matozzo offers two body specifications: regular fit and slim fit. This time, we've adopted the slim fit, which provides a comfortable fit for Japanese people.
Furthermore, Anna Matuozzo's signature "manica camicia" (a sleeve attachment with gathers resembling raindrops) was originally only available in regular fit shirts, but Isetan Men's has specially incorporated it into their ready-to-wear shirts in slim fit. To achieve this, Isetan Men's has made original pattern modifications for the slim fit as well.

Good news for fans: "Pattern Order" service has also started.

We are planning a trunk show in the fall, and we encourage you to come and see our exquisite shirts, which allow you to experience the feeling of wearing a shirt as if you were "draping" it over your shoulders. Anna Matuozzo's ready-made shirts are available only in plain white from several different weaves, but all of them are made from Carlo Riva, the world's finest fabric, which has become synonymous with Anna Matuozzo. In addition, we will be starting a "pattern order" service for colored and patterned shirts as part of the Only MI Campaign from March 2nd (Wednesday). Please look forward to that as well.
