Five people remake "Big Yank shirts they want to wear."

The Big Yank The Third Edition promotion, currently being held at the Authentic Casual section on the 7th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building until February 1st (Monday), features shirts remade by five "fashion geeks" who are fans of Big Yank, an American work shirt brand that is currently only available in the vintage market.

Big Yank was founded in 1919 as a workwear brand of Reliance, Inc. in Chicago, USA. Details that originated in the 1930s, such as the asymmetrical pockets nicknamed "gacha pockets" or "mountain pockets," pen holders, and a back yoke designed to reduce stress during work, were born out of practicality and have now been elevated into design elements, and it is worth seeing how they have been rearranged in this remake.

The staff member talks about the appeal of Big Yank

Assistant Sales Manager Masami Tsujii explains, "This spring and summer, indigo, blue chambray, and other colors are trending, and shirts are easy items to incorporate into your wardrobe. Big Yank shirts may look like basic work shirts at first glance, but every detail is meticulously crafted for comfortable work. In this remake, we've further explored and arranged the details that are often talked about. Another appealing aspect is that the fabric and colors will age beautifully over time, becoming more comfortable against the skin as you wear and wash them repeatedly."

Pay attention to the diverse designs of the tags and details.

Tomohiro Konno, designer of NEXUSVII., has created a faithful reproduction of a very rare vintage "Gacha Pocket Shirt" with diamond-shaped ventilation holes, based on a Big Yoke Shirt he owns. He has added vintage bandana fabric to the lining, giving it a distinctive Big Yank touch. ¥28,080

Kazutoshi Yamada, owner of the vintage clothing store Ber Ber Jin in Harajuku, is particular about button-down shirts, and store manager Yutaka Fujiwara has further modified Big Yank's distinctive yoke by making the back yoke T-shaped. Left: ¥19,400, Right: ¥28,080

Hirofumi Yamashita of MOJITO has created two items: a Cuban shirt with a longer length and mountain pocket design, and a two-tone shirt with a zipper. The Cuban shirt has a design and silhouette that allows it to be worn as a jacket in early spring. Left: ¥37,800, Right: ¥24,840

Fashion director Masahiko Sakata, who is also well-versed in vintage clothing, is particular about the sizing that is unique to Big Yank. With the desire for customers to wear it in a "big silhouette," the brand offers two sizes: XL and XXL. Each is priced at ¥24,840.

This time, in addition to the pre-sale of Big Yank shirts from the five designers mentioned above, original shirts from the regular line are also on sale. You can compare the originals with their arrangements and reflect on the origins of classic work shirts.

"Another appeal of Big Yank is that it's not a finished product once you buy it; it becomes your own unique shirt as you wear it. We hope you'll be able to create a shirt that you'll cherish," says Tsujii.
