Today's pipe is...

Today, Mr. Shimaji will once again slowly puff on his pipe.
As I've mentioned before, Mr. Shimaji owns a large collection of pipes.

"The night before, I enjoy choosing which pipe to take to Isetan the next day from among the many available."


This week's quote
"The pipe that smokes the smoke of culture is a walking stick for the mind."


Mr. Shimaji said the following:

"At home, I enjoy a drink and a pipe while writing manuscripts or reading books. When I concentrate on my writing or the stories in my books like that, I feel like I'm on an adventure or taking a walk in my mind... For me, the alcohol is the fuel and the pipe is the walking stick."

That's a very Shimaji-like idea!

And this week's recommended drink is Lagavulin 16 Year Old. A smoky yet elegantly sweet whisky made on Islay.
While smoking a pipe selected from a wide variety, they chose a smoky liquor to complement the smoke.

Profile - Katsuhiko Shimaji

 Producer of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . Born in 1941. After graduating from Aoyama Gakuin University, he joined Shueisha. He was assigned to "Weekly Playboy" and became its editor-in-chief in 1983, where he created a sensation with the "Life Advice" column featuring Renzo Shibata, Toko Kon, and Ken Kaiko as respondents, growing the magazine into a million-copy publication. He later served as editor-in-chief of "PLAYBOY Japan" and "BART." After serving as representative director of Shueisha International, he retired in 2008. He is currently working as a writer and essayist.
