Amazingly, CHALIE opened a pop-up store in Kyoto, a place in Japan that CHALIE loves! (※It has now closed.) CHALIE VICE @ Kyoto introduces the challenges of six people that CHALIE encountered in Kyoto.
During her travels, CHALIE VICE encountered six young men. Each of them was a successor to a traditional craft rooted in Kyoto. What interested CHALIE was that they were not simply inheriting tradition, but were evolving traditional techniques into something entirely new through their own individuality and sensibilities. They possessed something different from the "Japanese craftsmen" that CHALIE had imagined.
Six young men, born and raised in Kyoto, are taking on six different paths in life. For a limited time, we have created a special space in Kyoto, the base of each of their journeys, to introduce their challenges to everyone.
And, being a party lover, CHALIE VICE apparently held a party for her dear friends at her favorite spot in Kyoto. Here's a glimpse of what it was like!




This is a long-established traditional Japanese restaurant in Kyoto. It's one of CHALIE VICE's favorite places, and he always visits it whenever he comes to Kyoto. The party began with CHALIE welcoming Kundo Koyama and other young people in their sixth year who are carrying on tradition while finding new value, as well as his friends from Kyoto.




I enjoyed Kyoto cuisine at a traditional Japanese restaurant while chatting with six young men about the theme of "Looking Ahead to the Next 100 Years," sharing their stories of how they came to take over their family businesses and their dreams for the future.
...Incidentally, the organizer, Cahlie Vice, unfortunately couldn't make it to the party again due to complications with his transit from Europe. We received a message from him.

"Although it was a short period, I was so happy to be able to share the value of the new traditions created by my beloved friends in Kyoto, the city I love, with many more friends! I'm sure I'll visit Kyoto many more times in the future. When I do, I hope to bring you more of the 'good things' that I recommend. I believe Kyoto has a power to fascinate people regardless of their nationality. I'm sure that throughout my long life ahead, I'll find myself visiting Kyoto again without even realizing it, in order to unravel that mystery."
